Six Myths About Your Midway Career

Your career will not diminish the longer you work, as some people seem to believe. In fact, it can be a great opportunity to find your purpose, and in doing so, keep growing.

Once you’ve worked three or more decades, you may not dare think about changing your career, as it may seem the odds are stacked against you.

Maybe you’re listening to the voices in your head “too experienced, “too expensive”, “the only thing I can do is ____”, “I’ve done everything I want to do professionally.” Or you might think you’ll just never get your resume past a recruiter.

All of that is just plain wrong.

People in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond increasingly want stimulating jobs, and have little desire of quietly and fully retiring. What mainly holds them back are persistent ageist stereotypes with no basis in fact.

It’s time we debunked the worst of them.
